Week 1 of an 8 week program training for Half Marathon.
Athlete to assess half marathon goal.
Work out mile pace for this goal.
Work out 800 M pace for this goal
Work out 400 M pace for this goal.
- Goal sub 1.48 = pace 8.14 = 800 m at 4 min 6 sec pace – 400 m at 2 min 3 sec pace
Warm up trim trail leading in to strides.
1 mile at half marathon pace – track x 4
Two min recovery and repeat – aiming for same time. Each individual identifies and establishes their half marathon pace. This will assist their sessions over the following 8 weeks.
4 x 400 m aiming for consistent pace or faster. With 45 secs recovery between each one.
This session is split in to two groups. Group 1 is a 9 mm or less then group 2 will work with longer recovery and only 1 track x 4.The objective of this session is to get people switched on to pacing for this distance. Leaders required to help with this session and to help people work out their paces for the above.
Home work – a longer run focusing on a half marathon pace. Increase a mile every couple of weeks.
